Timeless Inner Connection

What is Shodhan Kriya?

Shodhan Kriya is traditional breathing techniques to bring tremendous transformation within you. Breath and mind are interconnected as what Hatha Yoga Pradipika says. When you are angry, jealous or frightened; the pattern of your breathing becomes rapid, haphazard and uneven. But when everything comes under control, the same breath turns slow, smooth and serene. When you learn to become aware of your breath; gradually one day you become aware of the subtle breath (prana) too. Shodhan kriya not only purifies your breath; but also helps in the expansion of your innate prana. Prana is the first evolution of cosmic consciousness (Shiva) when existence begins. With overflowing vital energy; things start happening not on you, but through you.

Whatever frustration, anxiety, fear or bad memories are hidden in your sub-conscious mind slowly comes out at the surface and then eliminates permanently. Shodhan is powerful breathing technique to make you relax, balanced with stress-free mind. You start living moment to moment no trace of past or future projection.

Ethics of Shodhan Kriya

The bedrocks of Shodhan kriya are six principles through which you not merely understand and digest the traditional breathing kriyas; but also integrate and absorb what is said between the lines. As you delve deeper and deeper within you; the pearls of wisdom hidden at the bottom bounces back to float at the surface of your mind.

Vow (sankalp)

The vow you take before plunging into the program must reach to the deepest space of your sub-conscious mind.

Surrender (samarpan)

Empty yourself completely to prepare mentally and psychologically for transformation by surrendering all what belongs to you.

Commitment (pratibadata)

Vow and surrender starts displaying divine traits when commitment joins them to take the pathless path less-travelled.

Presence (upastiti)

Withdrawing the past experiences and future aspirations, be living in the presence moment as Shodhan always happen in now.

Empty mind (khali mann)

An empty mind free from conditioning and prejudices makes you worthy for spiritual evolution and regain your pristine nature

Blissful state (anand)

Joy comes within; outer happenings only trigger it what is inside you.  Cultivate a joyful state to transform you horizontally and vertically.

Awaken Through Sacred Breath

Meaning of Shodhan Kriya

‘Shodhan’ is a Sanskrit word for purification, cleansing or detoxification. It not only cleanses the body by clearing toxins, but also purify your breath, mind and optical nerves. “Kriya” signifies subtle action or inner practice. In a nutshell, Shodhan kriya means traditional practice of purification. It touches five levels of breath awareness that begins from outer and finally reaches to the center of your consciousness.

Shodhan Kriya involves power of breath to redefine you, rewire you and rediscover you after subduing all those impurities that doesn’t belong you. And, what remains at the end is “pure consciousness” that is “Self” free from all boundaries and limitations.

Path of Inner Purification

Five Steps to Traditional Breathing

Shodhan Kriya includes five traditional breath kriyas. It begins with slow breath; shifts to intermediate breath and finally touches “breath within the breath”. Purification at multi-levels begins only when incoming breath touches your navel center. This is known as “Tanden” in Japanese martial arts and this is the seat of vital energy (prana).  Slow and control breathing let the air flow in balance way from both nostrils. You gain rhythmic pattern in incoming and outgoing breath. The sound of breath-movement becomes subtle and you start feeling only pulsation at certain points (at the end of inhalation & exhalation). Awareness generates not only at the movement of the breath, but also at space where breath stops momentarily. These are five steps to Shodhan Kriya:

Rhythmic breath

Fast, shallow breath indicates anxious mind. When breath is chaotic; mind wanders. Traditional breathing kriyas assures rhythmic pattern of breath to relax the overthinking mind and balms the suppressing emotions and feelings.

Deep & long breath

Deep and long breath allows full engagement of the diaphragm, lungs and intercostal muscles. It purifies the whole breath channel and also detoxify the body by eliminating stubborn impurities. It makes you feel light, energetic and full of life.

Deep & long breath

Deep and long breath allows full engagement of the diaphragm, lungs and intercostal muscles. It purifies the whole breath channel and also detoxify the body by eliminating stubborn impurities. It makes you feel light, energetic and full of life.

Fast Breath

Forceful and rapid breath pumps out unwanted airs trapped in many parts of your body and elevates oxygen level. It releases all the suppressed emotions and feelings and also frees you from conditioned mind. It also helps in attaining calm and focused mind.

Nadi breath

When incoming and outgoing breath balances from both nostrils, then subtle breath (prana) starts ascending upwards from major Sushmana nadi. You learn to remain grounded in all situations and seed of higher spiritual evolution sprouts in inner ground of being.

Transcendental breath

When every inhale touches your navel, and every exhale begins from ‘tanden’, then it is known as transcendental breath. It opens the intuitive eyes and whatever you wish or dream, it becomes true or come nearer to the realized level.

Science of Sacred Breath

Science behind Breath

Breathing is the process of moving air in and out through nose, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli (tiny air sacs). Breathing is combination of respiratory system, nervous system, circulatory system and even cellular level. In simple words, breathing is a blend of physics and biology with a little bit of neuroscience.

A normal person breathes 21,500 cycles in a day. There a subtle sound of “sa” in inhaling air and “ha” is exhaling air. In essence, every breath whispering “Hamsa” breathing i.e. “I am Shiva”, “I am that”. So, breath is blend of both science and spiritual science.

Breath is not merely a biological process of exchanging gases; but it’s a link between your lower self and higher ‘Self’. Breath meditation subdues ego from the embodied consciousness and elevates you to divine ‘Self’. Intuition, wisdom and clarity of mind cultivates within you.
